Do you think skyblock should update to 1.20.5+? (2024)

So I’ve been thinking recently and I have a question for you all, do you think skyblock should update to versions 1.20.5+ or stay in 1.8.9?

Me personally I think Skyblock should stay in 1.8.9 because im stubborn

I know obviously updating to 1.20+ can add TONS of new mechanics/update possibilities, but I just feel like it would be… “un-skyblock-ey”

I know this argument is stupid asf for everything regarding Minecraft but like still I don know

Also it’s not halal because like every single sb mod I have will have to be updated to a 1.20.5 version

It should, and it will.

Updating to 1.20+ means that the admins will have the opportunity to do A LOT more with the game than they currently can. Foraging update would just be the start of it.

Content that we know and love has the potential to receive a major glow up with 1.20 tech. There are WAY more benefits to upgrading to 1.20 than staying on 1.8.9.

Also, if you're worried about your mods not being updated, they will be. At least the ones which are up to date. The admins won't just throw this at us immediately. They will definitely give mod developers a heads up (if they haven't received one already) when they are going to upgrade to 1.20 core.

Though, I think the only mod that hasn't been updated yet that many people use is chattriggers, which is a bit unfortunate.

CT prob holds like half my mods

There is no good reason to stay at 1.8.9, which is objectively worse for everyone:

• users (poor performance client-side, poor performance server-side (I HATE ARMORSTAND SPAM) and lack of content are only tip of the iceberg)
• admins (no content, no features, no control, high cost of keeping it up, bleeding playerbase as newgen players won't touch 1.8.9 with 5 foot long stick)
• mod developers (forge is crap, old java is stink, also no new mod dev would want to touch 1.8.9 or/and forge)

"B-b-but I'm too lazy to click 3 buttons to make new profile for new version and I'm too smooth-brained to download a modpack" - well, if you can spend thousands of hours staring at glass you may as well spend 10 minutes learning where profiles in your launcher and how to download and install a modpack

Honestly at this point we should just wait to see how things go when the foraging update release, it will be here that we'll see all the potential problems coming with updating to a more recent version though only confined to specific islands at first.

If this goes wrong then there is no chance they will update everything to 1.20+, otherwise the poll you are making will switch towards "update to 1.20+" if this goes well. Until then it's too speculative so this poll isn't really representative yet.

didnt admins say that there was an idea to make a new island only available to those using 1.20+, iirc it was the island shaped like an atol that they wanted to use 1.20 blocks for (scrapped now i think)

Gotta be real honest, at first I was really excited but now that I have had time to think about the potential of 1.20 I don't really like the idea of updating anymore. Whilst it may be very profitable for the Hypixel Devs and Admins, I myself can't imagine the feeling of playing SB in a modern versions. It would just, feel weird, off for some reason.
