I’ve tweaked this recipe for my liking, but feel free to swap out whatever scents you prefer as it is easy to customize. One great thing about making these bath bombs is that once you have the molds, you can make as many or as few as you want. With this recipe, I made a few to give away as gifts to other friends and family. These work great for many occasions like birthdays, weddings, baby showers. Just be sure to store them in an airtight container if you can. It helps keep them from drying out and breaking apart. So, if you are in need of a relaxing bath as I am, let’s get started.

What You’ll Need:

Like I said above, feel free to swap out these scents for ones you prefer. The spray bottle with the alcohol is for spritzing the DIY bath bomb mixture so it doesn’t get dry in the bowl while you are making them.

To get started, take the large mixing bowl, and add in the baking soda, powdered buttermilk, Epsom salts and cream of tartar. Whisk dry ingredients together throughly before you add any of the liquids.

Melt the coconut oil in the microwave in 30-second bursts until melted. This helps keep it from burning. Once it is perfectly melted, add it to the bowl of dry ingredients. This binds all the ingredients together, so your bath bombs don’t crumble when you touch them!Next, melt the carnauba oil in the microwave in 30-second bursts until melted and add to the bowl. Like with the coconut oil, you just want to watch until it is perfectly melted. The carnauba oil acts as an emulsifier and helps the coconut oil disperse more evenly in your bathwater. It also makes the bath bombs bubbly and prevents the colorant from sticking to the side of the tub.You do not want to accidentally stain your tub green! Been there, not fun.

It’s time to add the colorant. You can pick any color you want. For this batch I choose to go with a light green mica color. Mix everything together thoroughly. You may need to use your hands to break down any lumps and make sure everything is mixed in. You’ll know when the mixture is perfect when it holds together when you press it into your hands and feels like wet sand. This part is kinda fun!

Time to make some bath bombs! Get your molds and add the bath bomb mixture to them until they are slightly overflowing like the photo. Fill the other side of the mold with the mixture in the same way.

When they are full, press the molds together. You will need to kind of grind them together to remove the excess mixture.Rapidly twisting them back and forth should do the trick.

Gently tap each side of the mold to release the bath bombs. Allow them to dry for a minimum of 24 hours. If your climate is wet or cold, allow an additional 24 hours. My rule of thumb is that when it is hard to the touch, they are ready for the tub! Store in an airtight container until you are ready to use the bath bombs for stress relief.

As you make the all remember to keep the mixture moist. If the mixture gets dry while making your bath bombs, spritz a bit of the alcohol and mix well. Then continue making your stress-relief bath bombs. I usually make a large batch to keep some for myself as well as give some away to friends and family.
